Not one to keep quiet for long, Moseley Folk Festival continues to bring nationally claimed folk artists to Birmingham’s leafy surrounds.

One of the highlights of Moseley Folk Festival 2009, Beth Jeans Houghton returns to Birmingham to perform for The Lunar Society on the 6th November at the Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath. Having played alongside a diverse collection of artists including Fiona Regan, Imogen Heap and Scott Matthews, Beth was labelled the Observer Music Monthly’s rising star for July. Devendra Banhart very publically gave his endorsement interrupting his Greenman Festival set halfway though and inviting Beth to play her own song. Birmingham based Friends of the Stars and Banksa will be providing support.

The Lunar Society is very closely linked with the Moseley Folk Festival. Many of the acts that play the Lunar Stage (to the left of the Main Stage at the 2009 festival) have previously performed at this monthly gathering. It’s a chance to see up and coming artists from around the country with top local support. Usually meeting in the more intimate smaller room upstairs at the Kings Heath Hare and Hounds, the audience is met with a welcoming candle lit atmosphere and a late bar till 1am.

Winner of the BBC Folk Awards for Singer and Album of the Year, Chris Wood and his Handmade Life tour will be stopping off at the Moseley All Services Club on the 4th December. Chris’s tour band includes fellow Imagined Villagers Andy Gangadeen and Barney Morse Brown on drums and cello along with Robert Jarvis on trombone. This unique instrumentation provides the perfect match for Chris’s voice and the timeless songs that have earned him the Contemporary Music Network’s acclaim as a major commentator on contemporary English life.
