Features

As well as some of our random posts on here, we will be aiming to feature a number of regular posts about topics that people from Birmingham, The Black Country and beyond, would like to share with us.

One of the first features will be about the Black Country flag which has been designed by Phillip Tibbetts.

“Each week, I, as a young, dewy eyed YamYam with a little graphical design skill and a bucket load of local pride will bring you some insight into the campaign to adopt symbols for the Black Country.

Over the past nine months I’ve been pushing to get such symbols designed and recognised, indeed I’ve already managed to get one official accreditation. It’s hard work but well worth it; the Black Country has quite an illustrious heritage and is just as deserving as any other county for a strong visual identity. Symbols like plaids, emblems and flags can importantly promote awareness of the region externally whilst simultaneously bolstering community pride internally.

I look forward to the next few weeks when I hope to show you my designs, talk about the symbolic heritage of the area and its towns, detail why and to what lengths I’ve gone in the name of the Black Country, what can be achieved by this and how it can be accomplished.

Next week I intend to get stuck in straight away by revealing my top designs for potentially the most important symbol – A Black Country Flag! We’re a proud bunch in the Black Country – let’s have something to show for it!”
